WCTC Scouting Event

This weekend I went to a really cool event, it was held at WCTC (Waukesha County Technical College). It was an event for the Boy Scouts of America. The event had a lot to offer the scouts, everything from rock climbing and reading and cooking to Geo Caching. The WGA was asked to have a booth set up to show the scouts about Geo Caching and promote the new Geo Caching merit badge that is coming out or has come out. WCTC allowed 11 new permanent Geo Caches to be placed on their property. These were placed by members of the WGA and were published the night before the event took place. We also had 6 temporary caches placed for the scouts to locate during the event using loaner GPS’ that were available. The WGA was well represented during the day, we had a nice booth showing off a lot of different caches and styles and information to hand out to the kids and parents that stopped by.

Unfortunately, we didn’t get a lot of people, about 20 or so kids and families showed up and went out and looked for the temporaries. I think might have been because the kids could climb a rock wall or go shoot hoops with the Bucks or some of the other booths out there. So the day was filled with a lot of talking about our favorite caches and stories of geo crashing (You know falling down while out hunting a cache), along with new tools and tricks while out in the field. Sometime during the day NoHandsGPS and I were able to get out and we grabbed the 11 permanent caches. If you don’t know about NoHandsGPS he has a really neat device for holding your GPSr while out on long hikes. Check out his site http://www.treeghost.com/Home.html I know, a shameless plug but I use it and I am a big guy and it helps when you are in the field doing a lot of walking and like to have your hands free for things like your hiking stick or anything else. It may look uncomfortable but it is very comfortable.

Ok, back to the show here are a few pictures I took, we even had the famous Milwaukee Brewers racing sausages there and they tried to locate a cache but there buns got in the way lol!

Well it was a fun event, I got to meet a lot of really nice people and old friends and had a very fun time. That is it for now so happy caching and don’t forget you are never lost there’s just too much tree cover.
